Saturday, 9:30 pm Update
I've always heard that the third day after surgery is usually the worst and today was no exception. Steve is still right on track with his recovery but he is pretty sore and can't get comfortable in the bed or the chair. Physical Therapy was called in today so with the aid of a walker, Steve was able to take a few steps. He was rather shakey so they didn't push it. I think they'll try again tomorrow. I printed all of the blogs that have been sent, (there's no internet access in ICU), and read them to Steve. He really enjoyed hearing from all of you. It's all the good wishes and prayers that are getting us through this ordeal.

Steve-
Tomorrow is the fourth day and I now you will be moving a bit better . With that in mind - Lydia might like to challenge you to a spirometer/ breath-o-meter contest. She has gotten a head start, but I know you and that means nothing! We might even be able to talk my dad (Uncle Art) into joining in. He will do anything for you two. I love you and am looking forward to seeing your smile.
Love,
Audrey
Hi, Paddy and Steve,
Thanks for the email on the Doctors, Paddy. Chris knew of one of them, but is especially glad to know that you two feel comfortable about them. Hang in there and we hope the walking is more satisfying on Sunday, since you were looking forward to that.
Love,
Chris and Susan
Hi, it's Wadia & Louis again, and by the way, keeping true to my "nurse ratchett" reputation, I'd like to referee the incentive spirometer match between lydia and steve; of course, we'll have to calculate a handicap to give Steve a fair shot (he has a few years on Lydia!). I wanted to pass on good news if you haven't heard: Gabrielle and Vince are engaged! So in addition to the extravaganza you're planning for Stephanie and Joey in January, we're looking forward to another happy occasion next summer. Take care, and hang in there! Love you all, Wadia & Louis
Hi Paddy and Steve,
This is Aunt Gin. While they are working to rehab themselves, perhaps Lydia and Steve can inspire Uncle Art to work a little harder on his breathing skills. A nagging wife is never as effective as a beloved granddaughter and nephew!
We love you and look forward to hugging you soon!
Hi Steve,
We continue to pray for a speedy and healthy recovery. Hang in there. We hope to see you out and about in the very near future.
Best Wishes,
Jo Ann and Anthony Graffeo
Paddy and Steve et al,
Thanks Paddy for keeping us up to date on Steve's progress. We will send extra Sunday prayers today and keep you in our thoughts. I'll volunteer to be the referee in the Breath-o-meter contest based on my own past experience.Walk today, Steve, you'll never walk alone.
With love and blessings,
Aunt Margaret Ellis
Steve and Paddy, Uncle Paul and I are still waiting on a job!
We remembered you at Mass today. We have been involved in Uncle Paul's John Carroll reunion this weekend. Lots of fun. Will share with you all of my famous "foot in mouth" comments!
See you later today.
