Thursday, 5:00 pm update

It is with great joy and some caution that I tell you WE'RE HOME!!!! Both the oncologist and the infectious disease doctor agree that Steve is on the mend and it was time to go home. We have pretty much come to the conclusion that the infection came from his port. The last 2 sets of blood cultures have not grown any bacteria, Thank God. We will monitor Steve's termperature very closely at home and if his fever goes above 101 we have been instructed to get blood cultures drawn right away. Steve will be on antibiotics for the next 3 weeks and he will start back on his chemotherapy tomorrow morning. It is so good to be home!!!! We just want to sit on the patio, soak in the fresh air and thank God for his many blessings.

I HATE Cancer. It comes and takes over the best of men. Only the strong will survive. Steve you are so strong you have to beat this ugly disease. For my Dad he will not win. YOU WILL!!
We love you

Hey Paddy and Steve, Thanks for keeping us posted. I'm thrilled that Steve is home and pray that he continues to improve. All the family in Atlanta keeps asking about him so I've sent the link for this site.

Mom is coming to Birmingham so I hope to bring her over to see you next week.

Love and hugs to all

Paddy, you all are an awesome inspiration to all who take love and life for granted. You are such a wonderful, caring person - a real role model! I think about you often, please let Steve know that my entire family is thinking about you both. Would love to see you one day. It was a year ago in November that we saw each other at Dane's going away party. Maybe we can get together when he gets home from NY. Sincerely, tricia hungerpiller
